This easy and delicious homemade applesauce is a by-product of making my homemade apple cider recipe.  Bonus, 'cause you get two recipes for one basically!

Ingredients

  • 5 large (~ 2 1/2 pounds) applescored & cut in 6-8 slices
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks (~ 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon)
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • ~ ¾ cup water

Instructions

  • Core and slice the apples (leave peel on if you prefer) and place in large pot and add water .
  • Bring to a boil (covered) and add sugar, cinnamon sticks, and pumpkin pie spice. Reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes or until apples are tender.
  • Remove cinnamon sticks.
  • Puree with a potato masher, blender, or food processor (careful - it's hot!).  Happy eatin'!  Beckie

Notes

  • Are you making apple cider too?  Increase the water to 3 inches above the apple and simmer covered for 3 hours before making applesauce.
  • Applesauce too thick?  Add a little water to thin it out.  Too watery?  Strain it before you blend it.
