This simple oven roasted fig recipe is served with a sweet and savory honey and balsamic vinegar sauce. Serve roasted figs with balsamic honey glaze with whipped cream or ice cream.

Ingredients

Ingredient List:

  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 3/4 lb fresh figs, halved
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • >  ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • > ¼ tsp salt
  • 3 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 cup ice cream or whipped cream , served on the side

Instructions

For the Figs:

  • Preheat oven to 400F
  • Lay figs in a single layer (cut side up) in a lightly oiled baking dish and cook uncovered for ~12 minutes or until warm and soft.

For the Sauce:

  • In a small pan melt butter and add cinnamon.  Stir cinnamon into butter first and then add salt, honey, and balsamic vinegar.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cook at a low simmer for ~ 8-10 minutes stirring occasionally or until thickened.  Don't skimp on this step - you want it to reduce.  It will thicken as it cools for a couple minutes.
  • Pour the thickened balsamic honey sauce over the figs and serve with fresh whipped cream or ice cream.  Happy eating!  Beckie

Notes

  • Balsamic and Honey Glaze will thicken as it cools, so let it cool a couple minutes before drizzling over the figs.
