Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad

Wow your guests with this simple and classic tomato, mozzarella cheese, basil "Caprese Salad" recipe.

These beauties are the heirloom variety Cherokee Purple tomatoes.  

If the tomatoes are super fresh and juicy, place the more solid Mozzarella cheese as the bottom piece and lay the juicy tomatoes on top of the Mozzarella.

Want to give it more punch?  Add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

Serving Suggestion

Serve this Caprese Salad with a complementary recipe like:

  • White bowl of tomato based soup with sausage, carrots,arugula, white beans, and garnished with thin slices of Parmesan cheese. Spoon and baguette on the side.
    Minestrone Soup with Sausage and Cannellini Beans
  • 6 slices of cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto. On a live edge wood cutting board.
    Prosciutto Wrapped Melon
  • 5 crostini (little toast) with green pesto and parmesan sprinkled on the top. Garnished with lemon zest. On a white plate
    Mizuna and Walnut Pesto Crostini
  • Cooked shrimp in a deep plate with halved cherry tomatoes and basil pesto. Garnished with Pine nuts.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium heirloom tomatoes, sliced
  • 1lb whole buffalo mozzarella, sliced
  • e.v. olive oil
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • ~20 basil leaves

Instructions

  • Lay the tomato slice down on 6 plates.  
  • Top with Mozzarella slices.  
  • Drizzle with e.v. olive oil.  
  • Sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper.  
  • Top with basil leaf.  Eat well!  Beckie

Notes

If the mozzarella is stronger or thicker than the tomatoes lay that down first and the tomatoes second.
