This Asian inspired butter lettuce wrap is stuffed "taco style" with ground sausage cooked with onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce (tamari), fresh lime juice, sriracha sauce, honey, and vegetables.

Don't like or have pork? Cool - use ground chicken or tofu instead. There is an orange zest garnish that can be skipped or you could also use lime zest.

This ground pork lettuce wrap recipe uses gluten free soy sauce. It is full of veggies, is low carb, and is a lighter dish with tons of flavor.

Variations On Ground Pork Asian Lettuce Wraps

The ground sausage / pork in this Asian lettuce wrap recipe can also be substituted for ground chicken or turkey or crumbled tofu or tempeh.

This Asian inspired pork lettuce wrap recipe has an orange zest garnish. Use lemon or lime zest if preferred or omit zest entirely.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ tablespoon peanut oil
  • 2 lb of pork sausage
  • 1 cup onions, diced
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 1 cup raw mushrooms, diced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 cup green onions, sliced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • zest from 2 limes - as garnish
  • ⅓ cup fresh lime juice
  • 3 tablespoon soy sauce / tamari - regular or gluten free
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 3 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup chopped cashews
  • 2 heads of butter lettuce

Instructions

  • Bring a large pan to medium high heat, add peanut oil to lightly coat the bottom of the pan.  
  • Add sausage, onions, carrots, celery, and mushrooms and cook until sausage is broken up and nearly done (~8 minutes).
  • Reduce heat to medium and add garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant (~ 1-2 minutes).  Add green onions, salt, lime juice, and soy sauce.  Cook ~ 3-4 minutes.
  • Add sriracha, honey, and cashews.  Cook an additional 3-4 minutes or until veggies are tender.
  • Arrange butter lettuce leaves on a serving plate (one leaf is generally good, but  layer two leaves together if the lettuce is weaker).  
  • Place meat mixture in the middle of wrap.  Top with fresh lime zest.  Add salt to taste.  Happy Eating!  Beckie
