Easy Clean Up for Baked Salmon with Lemon Butter

This lemon butter salmon recipe is versatile. Cook the salmon with butter on a sheet pan lined with aluminum foil or parchment and you won't have to clean either!

The salmon can also be baked in aluminum foil or parchment packets or cooked in a baking dish if preferred.

Simple and fast ingredients.

Wild Caught or Farm Raised Salmon?

Wild salmon is generally thinner and also has less fat.  It will cook faster.  Check salmon at 8-10 minutes in the oven.

Farm raised salmon is generally fattier (not a bad thing!) as well as thicker.  It will need the full 13-15 minutes and maybe more if your oven runs cooler or if the salmon is thicker.

I change my mind on farm vs wild caught salmon all the time. Currently, I am buying sustainably farmed salmon to leave the wild salmon for the orcas and bears and wildlife...

Slather the compound butter mixture across the salmon. It will be clumpy but just call it rustic 🙂

Remove Salmon Pin Bones Before Adding Lemon Butter

Sometimes salmon will have pin bones. Pin bones are the little bones that are sometimes in a fish filet.

Ask the butcher to remove them when buying or take them out yourself with some tweezers by gently pulling them away holding the flesh of the fish down.

Pull the pin bones away from the salmon in the direction that you think they got in and the direction that will cause the least disturbance and damage to the salmon.

If all else fails, leave the pin bones in and cook the salmon with the lemon butter. They can be removed before or while eating.

Easy Baked Lemon Butter Salmon Recipe FAQS:

Can you bake the lemon butter salmon in a packet?

Yup. Same temperature, same cooking time. Possibly even less clean up. Aluminum foil or parchment packets both work.

What temperature should you bake lemon butter salmon?

375F. Well that's the easiest answer. Cook it longer at 350 for a moister sorta "steamed" salmon or cook it at 400F for a shorter amount of time if you're trying to get it browned or roasted.

How long does it take to cook salmon in the oven?

10-15 minutes at 375F depending on the thickness of the salmon and how fatty it is. Store bought wild salmon generally cooks faster because it is thinner and/or has a lower fat content. Farmed salmon generally has higher fat content and is thicker which takes a couple minutes longer.
